Yes, it is. When Christianity came to these shores they took over existing pagan festivals, in this case the goddess Oestre, the goddess of fertility and the moon. Her symbol was a hare, later turned into the Easter bunny. The egg, of course, is a symbol of birth and renewal.
Lecture over - not too many chocolate eggs - remember your waistline. After all, we don't want to expand out of our nice new uniform do we now sister?
Well, there you go! I was always taught that the egg represented the stone in front of Jesus' tomb which was rolled away on Easter Sunday - we always had to 'roll' our eggs to break them!
Not sure what the rabbit was all about though!? I didn't think the Disciples hung about with Playboy girls! (Actually, a bunch of twelve men hangin' about all the time seems dubious to me at best!)
I'm glad you're interested enough to read about me! I'm a thirtysomething GWM, happily in love with my now husband and loving co-father of two cats, Eric & Pern. I work as a nurse within the local hospitals trust and have been qualified for over twelve years! My parents live in York, UK along with the majority of my extended family though I remain tucked away in the Midlands where I've made my home over the past decade or so. I'm sure there's more but this is a start...
