...What became of the monkey monkey monkey monkey...
Hi all! I'm back!
It's been a busy few weeks for many reasons and I'll update you all through my coming entries, as well as showing off some of my recent photographs and nattering about my exploits.
Firstly, I wanted to talk about this amazing place we found in Cornwall, not too far from the Eden Project, tucked away on a hill, above the coastline, almost impossible to drive to (the roads were hairaisingly narrow with high hedges obscuring any view of potential oncoming traffic... And the weather was awful!) and yet remarkable!
The Monkey Sanctuary!
Establsihed many moons ago, they take in rescued monkeys from the UK... No longer able to re-integrate into the wild, this home for the monkeys gives them space and companionship, warmth, a social structure to their lives and ample opportunity to rehabilitate and play! The place is put together based soley on the comfort of the monkeys... The main building, a gorgeous old house, is half monkey enclosure, giving only the minimum amount of room necessary to human occupation! The monkey enclosures themselves are massive, with connecting runways, tunnels and tubing to ensure the creatures have as much freedom as possible and they are not utilised as pets or show things for the public. If it's raining and they're indoors, we simply don't get to see them!
The keepers, paid minimally, are mainly there for the love of the job it would seem and were more than willing to impart their knowledge to us. I'm sure they could talk for hours on the subject and the young guy who chatted to us about the Capuchins was also kinda cute, in a grungey way!
I'd not only recommend a visit to this place, if you can find it, but also will be sponsoring them with a regular financial contribution to aid their vital work. They really seemed to care and I hope they continue to invest in the lives of animals caught up in the UK pet trade!
Having gift aided our entry fee, we're entitled to return free of charge over the coming year... I'm sorely tempted! If only it'd stop raining long enough! Jxx

I'm familiar with the work of Monkey World in Dorset - by the sound of it this is something different, but equally worthwhile.
BTW - welcome back - you were missed!
