Unsympathetic & heartless?
There's a lot in the news about the missing girl in Portugal. Maddie Whatsit. I do feel for the family but I can't help being annoyed that they left their children, at this young age, alone for any length of time! It's not like they couldn't afford babysitting costs and apparently, they were holidaying with friends... Surely a sharing of child care wouldn't have been too great a challenge?
I do hope they find the child safe and well but I'm not going to be over sympathetic with parents who do something quite so stupid! But then, didn't my parents leave us wandering the streets as kids - we called it 'playing out'! It was safe, it kept us exercised and no one thought bad of the parents then...!
I also watched a documentary-thing the other night of weird foods that some folk find difficult to stomach!! Whilst I couldn't comprehend eating raw seal meat, I did understand how this formed an essential part of the innuit diet. The programme went on to discuss the dog trade in Korea and showed some of the best and worst sides of this industry! Whilst I wouldn't condone mis-treatment of animals, if I knew the animal had been farmed in the same conditions we accept for livestock in this country, I certainly wouldn't have a problem eating dog meat! Am I a bad person? Jxx

No. Dog meat was a staple of the diet of many Native American tribes, and until horses were brought over by the Spanish, the canine was also the beast of burden.

I don't have any problem with farmed meat - no matter what the animal - providing they're kept in good condition.
As for little Maddie. I do feel for the family, but you're right - leaving kids that young, alone, is daft!
